Can’t find me?

Yoohoo! I’m over here!

Moving Day

After having my blog be wrongly suspended twice in the past month, I felt that it was time for a move. I haven’t transferred my old posts, though it essentially will be the same blog. I really want everything in one place, but it’s a huge task and a little stressful to get everything set. Nothing new, just the same old run-down of the eggs I had for breakfast, the miles I did on the treadmill, and the wild animals that attacked me. The usual.

I will still be referencing this blog, but just note that I’m now located at JimmyChoosontheTreadmill.wordpress.com. Bear with me while I tweak a few things over there! I still can’t decide if I like the new layout–thoughts?

Chocolate Chippy Coconutty Oats

If you look at any other foodie’s blog, go on Jillian Michael’s diet plan, or read “Goldilocks and The Three Bears,” you’ll see that they all have something in common: they eat oatmeal for breakfast. Not me. In fact, I’m much like Goldilocks when it comes to oatmeal. It needs to be just perfect for me to enjoy it. I’ve tried it with water and I’ve tried it with milk, I’ve tried it hot and I’ve tried it cold, I’ve tried it with peaches and I’ve tried it with brown sugar, and I’ve hated it every single time.

However, during my many trials of oatmeal taste-testing, I have tolerated it twice. This morning I woke up feeling like I wanted to give it another go. I remembered actually really liking it when I ate it mixed with chocolate protein powder on my senior retreat (I snuck the protein powder after it was explicitly forbidden by my evil religion teacher), so I recreated the oats this morning.

Once I scanned my pantry, I decided that I wanted to sweeten them up even more, meaning that coconut and chocolate chips were added to the bowl. I can’t believe I’m saying–typing–this, but this oatmeal was tasty! It even reminded me of my favorite cookies. Oatmeal is great for breakfast or for a post-workout meal, so I’m glad I gave it a second try.

Chocolate Chippy Coconutty Oats

  • 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons coconut
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips

1. In a large bowl, combine oats and water.

2. Microwave oats for two minutes then stir with a spoon. Microwave oats for an additional two minutes then stir again. Repeat, only microwaving for 30 seconds this time. (Be sure to watch the oats in the microwave as they can explode!)

3. Vigorously stir the oats then add the chocolate protein powder.

4. Let it cool for a few minutes then add the coconut and chocolate chips (I like my chocolate chips to be halfway melted so I didn’t add them until the oatmeal was warm, not hot).

Note: I would have preferred to use dark chocolate squares instead of the chocolate chips, but I was all out!

attacked by a beast.

This morning I met my friend Jamie on the NCR Trail to catch up while getting a workout in. About five minutes into our walk, I noticed a loose dog up ahead of us rolling around in the muddy grass. As we approached the wild beast cute and cuddly furry friend, we willed it to stay put and just watch us as we passed by. Not a chance in hell was that happening. The rotweiler (I had to ask Jamie what kind of dog it was, though I knew it looked ferocious) came charging–at me, of all people.

Naturally, I screamed and ran in a circle, causing Jamie to get tangled in its “leash”–a 20 foot piece of yellow rope. Meanwhile, the monster’s owner was in the distance smoking a cigarette. Um, hellooo. Do you not realize that this is a nature trail? Once he finally acknowledged that he was responsible for our shrieks, he called out to the dog and managed a simple apology.

Are you kidding me? I’m covered in mud and slobber and all you can muster up is “Sorry, ladies,” then walk off? Not only did I continue to walk six miles looking like I had wiped out in a mud puddle then rolled down a hill, but I also had an appointment at the salon immediately after. Since I didn’t have time to change, I had to convince the receptionist that I was not homeless and was in fact attacked by a dog.

Let’s try this again.

Exactly one month ago, my blog was suspended because it was wrongly marked as spam. This is now becoming a monthly occurrence. Luckily, much hasn’t been going on in my life in the past  week.

Here’s a quick run-down on what you’ve missed:

1. I went to the beach and spent time breaking concrete, hammering nails, and installing new flooring. In reality, I actually was on broom duty and swept up any debris. My dad, brother, and Jen’s boyfriend did all of the manual labor.

2. I watched Amadeus, the movie based on Mozart’s life, on YouTube on my Blackberry. Twice. I was surprised that I liked it, too.

3. I went into a sugar and salt coma over the weekend. Thank goodness I’ve gotten some green vegetables into my system now.

5. I finished my semester with a 4.0 and welcomed summer with open arms (though it feels like it’s November outside, not May).

6. I was dumb and didn’t realize that not all Fuze drinks are low-calorie. Instead, I ingested nearly 50g of sugar from a drink.

7. I learned about a wonderful project that I will be working on in the coming weeks.

8. I visited my favorite stores and bought some cute dresses that I will be wearing as soon as the temperatures rise.

9. I got my weightlifting in by pretending to hold helping my dad hoist furniture into his truck.

Now that my blog is back up and running, I’m working on revamping it a bit like I had planned to do a week ago…grrr.
